SYNOPSIS

Over the past ten years, I toured my one woman show BLINDSIDE to theatres, festivals, and English-speaking schools around the world.

As a Franco-Ontarian assimilated into the Anglophone performing arts sector, I now feel drawn to our Francophone communities to rediscover my heritage and share my story in my mother tongue.BLINDSIDE is an entirely true comedy about growing up in Northern Ontario with a glass eye. This autobiographical piece is about my childhood and how I overcame my fear of being different when I was 7 years old.With the help of my cat, a pair of sunglasses, and an unwanted super power, I discover I have what it takes to stand up to my bullies at my new school and come to terms with my disability.

In BLINDSIDE, I share my troubled youth with vulnerability and humor by using a mix of storytelling, dance, projection, and puppetry featuring my glass eye.This project represents so much more than just a simple translation to me. It was an opportunity to connect with the local francophone community after nearly 10 years of not using my maternal language.A reason to dive deep, once again, into the creative process of a show that continues to grow with me in ways I never knew possible.A show that persists to challenge and inspire me. A show that pushes the boundaries of how trauma and disabilities are represented on stage. A show that celebrates every inch of our different bodies and minds.
